 How far should I book in advance?

As packages have limited availability we advise you to place your booking as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.  The sooner you apply the better your changes of securing your placement.  However, it is sometimes possible to join a package at the last minute so please contact us if you are interested in travelling in the near term.

How will I keep in touch with friends and family at home?

If you have a mobile phone, just make sure you have international roaming. To make an international call form South Africa you dial 09 followed by the country code of the country you wish to call followed by the relevant area code and phone number.  You will be provided with trips to town where internet cafés are available.

What should I pack?

Do you have an age policy?

NO!!! There is no age policy; we cater for everybody and anybody.  Because a number of our activities will be conducted on foot or travelling long distances we would recommend a minimum age of 10 years old for children.  But will always make an exception for family groups.

What language should I speak?

In South Africa English is a commonly spoken language and is spoken and understood by the majority of the population, a basic understanding of English would be recommended. 

What are my daily budget needs?

Food, travel, activities and accommodation are all inclusive in your package price, but because many of the places you will be visiting have curios and gifts, we would recommend that you bring some pocket money for such occasions.  Keep in mind that Visa or MasterCard are the most widely accepted.

What health risks are there in South Africa?

We would recommend that you have all the appropriate vaccinations (Hepatitis A / B and Tetanus) done prior to your arrival to South Africa.  As most of our activities are conducted in Malaria-free areas, Malaria would not be a problem.  However it is up to you whether you would still prefer to follow the prophylactic programme.  Tap water at all of our facilities is safe to drink.

Are South African medical facilities safe?

Yes, our private hospitals are safe and hygienic and operate in a professional manner.  At any time day or night medical attention will be available.

What is safety and security like in South Africa?

Your safety is of the at most importance to us. Matswane will handle all relevant transfers, we will collect you from O.R. Thambo International Airport and transfer you back when your stay with us has come to an end.  We will also accompany and supervise you on all activities.  Your safety and security will be our number one priority at all times during your visit to Matswane Adventure Trails.

What are some general travel safety tips?

We would advise you not to travel with any expensive jewellery and large sums of money, as those particular items may have a tendency to attracted unwanted attention.

When is it best to travel to South Africa?

South Africa's weather and climate is fantastic through out the year, with lovely warm to hot days and cool nights it is always a pleasure to come and stay with us.  

Do I need a Visa?

At the moment clients travelling from the USA, New Zealand, UK, Canada, EU and Australia do not require a visa to enter South Africa.  You will be issued with a 90 day visitor’s permit when presenting your passport upon arrival.  Extensions on the 90 day permit are available in your country of origin, or at the South African Department of Home Affairs.  Guests travelling from country other than those mentioned are to apply for a visitors or holiday visa from the South African Consulate of Embassy, and may take up to 10 to 15 days for your application to be processed.  

Should I get insurance?

We would advise you to get adequate travel and medical insurance, as it is not advisable to travel anywhere with out travel and medical insurance.
